This Monday at 1:30pm (East coast US time) I have the privilege of speaking with Ward Cunningham, the inventor of the wiki concept, to discuss The Wikipedia Revolution on the Yi-Tan Weekly Tech Call hosted by Jerry Michalski.
Among the things we’ll talk about:
- How has Wikipedia affected the world?
- What lessons can we take from it?
- What are Wikipedia’s next frontiers?
- What do wikis say about human nature?
Please find the details on how to listen and join the conversation at the Yi-Tan site.
An IRC Chat will be available during the call at freenode#yitan, here. On Twitter find the hashtag #yitan.
For those who don’t know Jerry Michalski, he is mentioned in the first line of my book, The Wikipedia Revolution and was the one who first introduced me to Wikipedia. So this is a nice way to see the whole thing come full circle!
Dr. Lih, I just wrote a book review of your recent book:

Dr Lih,
I ran across your CSPAN talk on your new Wikipedia book and watched it for a few minutes-it was late and I was tired. Sounds like an interesting read and I plan on picking it up sometime. A question did come to mind on the neutrality talk you were having with Dr Weinberger. Over all I do agree on the neutrality of Wikipedia, my question is on the Obama article. There have been attack taken against Wkipedia for not allowing controversial topics (such as Rev Wright, Bill Ayers and his birth certificate issue) to be posted on the main page but instead buried in several layers of links. The charges go to say the wikipedia bans people who add such things for a certain amount of suspension time. In a quick glance over his main page it does seem to be true that some issues that arose during his campaign are buried. I did find them in a “fight the smear” section in the 2008 campaign area. A couple of question: Is this common for figures of his status? Does this break the neutrality aspect? Should they at least be mentioned on his main page with link to more in depth areas? Are the rumors of suspension true? If this is not so common why is it done this way for him? If it is common I would love links proving against it. I am not sure if this came up in the discussion on TV, so forgive me if it was. I am not quite sure where i first heard about this but I know it was radio or TV (given the prevalence of bias in the media towards both parties doesn’t mean it is reliable). Apologies for the long post but would love reply you can e-mail me if you wish.
With Thanks,
Mark in Idaho
