For example, the Department of States warns that "unescorted women are vulnerable to sexual harassment and verbal abuse." Abuses of gay and lesbian individuals are well-documented. This isn't just about principles, it's about safety. I won't be going to Alexandria because I don't feel safe that I'd be coming home if I did.
