Do you know whether this event has already taken place this year? I'm heading over there later this year and wonder if it is still accessible.

Cheers

The above comment by Kelly Martin embodies what pisses me off about certain forms of ignorance.

My take on this issue is posted on my blog at http://www.hanimorsi.com/blog/index.php/archives/2007/10/15/open-media-closed-minds/

The problem with Alexandria for me, and for many people, is that it's personally unsafe to travel there in a way that few reasonable venues are. For example, the Department of States warns that "unescorted women are vulnerable to sexual harassment and verbal abuse." Abuses of gay and lesbian individuals are well-documented.

This isn't just about principles, it's about safety. I won't be going to Alexandria because I don't feel safe that I'd be coming home if I did.

Hi Andrew, this is Simon, I'm now working at SCMP. We are running a feature story on the Pulitzer prize winners' lectures in HK, one of them is Mei Fong. I am wondering if she has a handout photo that we can use? Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Simon
