Wikipedia in China Update

An update late Saturday, early Sunday: Wikipedia is still inaccessible for most everyone in PRC. The current block is actually a bit more restrictive than before October 10, since any mention of the string “zh.wikipedia.org” in any URL seems to be blocked.

For example:

http://www.google.com/search?q=zh.wikiepdia.org

will not go through, and will get you a “Connection reset” error.

I’ll try to post some more statistics later.

I am able to connect via anonymouse.com from Beijing.

However, the connection to the secure server is inaccessible for me. I was able to connect via https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Main_Page during the last block.

      Kevin,

Yes, many folks reported the secure connection no longer works either.

      Hi fellas,
I absolutely have no access to either versions (English or Chinese) of wikipedia from Shenzhen, P. R. China.

Haha! I had just typed a comment to add to a talk page, but when I tried to add it I couldn’t get through. So they must have cut off access right in the middle of my session! That would have been sometime after 8:30 a.m. on 17 November.

Would you explain what a connection reset error means?
